The Kelly-Winter genealogy lacks requisite dcoumentation for many dates and facts, but provides very credible insider family information, including the full names of the children and the birth and death dates for two additional children including one child who died at age 1 month. I have not entered previous generations of the Wagnons in this genealogy, but others have reconstructed the parentage of Andrew Jackson Wagnon. I include here the report of one of these that is well-done. ============================================================= Descendants of Daniel Monroe Wagnon 1. Daniel Monroe1 Wagnon was born 1814 in Greene Co., GA, USA, and died 1859 in Greene Co., GA, USA He married (1) Nancy Taylor Lumpkin 1 December 1832 in Ogilthorpe Co., GA. Nancy has been reported to have died in childbirth no doubt giving birth to William S He married (2) Martha M. Swindelle 18 December 1834 in Greene Co., GA, USA, daughter of Henry Swindell and Anna. Notes for Daniel Monroe Wagnon: I have census records on Daniel Monroe and Martha (Swindelle) Wagnon in 1850 Greene County, Georgia and of Martha alone with the children in 1860 Census of Green County, Georgia. Also I have the death of Daniel M. from the 1860 Georgia mortality records from microfilm and from a printed source of 1860 Georgia Mortality schedules. I also have Pittman Monroe's marriage certificates. One with Francis Leaverett and one with Mary Jane Casey, both in Georgia. I do not know who the parents of Daniel Monroe Wagnon are. It sometimes seems that they are Daniel and Elizabeth and then we hear something like we did from one descendant of Daniel that they only had one child, a daughter, Elizabeth who married Nathaniel Howell. Elizabeth was born a very long time before our Daniel Monroe so it doesn't seem likely that he is their child. He could also be the child of Thomas Poythress Wagnon who married Elenor Saucer, but again, no evidence. He could be the son of John Peter Wagnon Sr., but again, no proof. Children of Daniel Wagnon and Nancy Lumpkin are: i. William S. Wagnon, born 4 June 1834 in Greene Co. GA, USA. He married Martha married McLelland 5 July 1860. Children of Daniel Wagnon and Martha Swindelle are: + 3 i Henry George Wagnon, born 1837 in Greene Co., GA, USA. + 4 ii. Betty Gregston has Elma's name as Elmo Wagnon. Elma gives his name as Elma in his registrations for both WWI and WWII. She and some others report his birthplace as Enterprise, in Rusk County, Texas, which is the location on his WWII registration. We do find his father living in Rusk County, but Elma himself reports his birth place as Anderson, Grimes County, Texas, in his WWI registration. See details below. 1910 Federal Census, Stephens County, Oklahoma, 20 April, Rock Creek, District 244, page 2A, Hse/Fam #23 Wagnon, Andrew Head M W 55 Married 23 yrs GA GA GA Farmer Rents Wagnon, Rena Wife F W 51 Married 23 yrs TX TN TN Wagnon, Elmer Son M W 20 Single TX GA TX Farm Hand Elma is listed here and in at least one other census as Elmer. He is called Elma in his WWII Draft Registration. A family genealogy lists him as Elmo. Elma (Elmer) and his two siblings were all born in Texas. His brother Ed, the last child, is age 14 in this 1910 census, meaning he was born in about 1896. They would have moved to Indian Territory (Chickasaw Nation) after this year. In his WWI Draft Registration, he reports his name as Elma, and reports his exact birth date as 10 February 1890. His signature confirms that his name is Elma. Family sources tell us Peter and Polly moved to Blackton, Arkansas for a period before moving on to Texas. In 1870 there are no Waldon (Waldron) or Turner family members living with or near Peter and Polly. The birth state information also tells us that Peter and Susan moved from Arkansas to Mississippi in late 1846 or early 1847, between the births of Mary and Margaret. The family was back in Arkansas briefly between the 1860 and 1870 censuses, before moving to Titus County, Texas. The 1870 census in Mount Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, appears to report this family: Father Peter, age 56, is maintaining a household with the help of what appears to be a second wife Polly, age 36. This is consistent with the death of William Peter's wife, which we know from family history occurred in about 1859. 1870 Federal Census, Titus County, Texas, 6 August, Mt Pleasant, page 161, Hse/Fam #1120 Peter Christian 56 M W Farmer England Polly A Christian 36 F W Alabama William Christian 15 M W Mississippi Thomas Christian 13 M W Mississippi Daniel Christian 12 M W Mississippi James [Waldon] Christian 11 F W Mississippi Bartey (mis-write for Bartley?] Christian 11 M W Mississippi [Mother Susan Turner] Nancy Christian 9 F W Mississippi [Mother Polly] Malissa Christian 7 F W Mississippi [Mother Polly] Henry Christian 5 M W Mississippi [Mother Polly] It appears from this census that Polly had no children after their marriage before the 1870 census. Bartlett (Bartey) was the last child of Susan Turner. It is possible that Polly died in childbirth when Peter was born in September 1870, about a month after the 1870 census. At that time they were living in Mt Pleasant, Titus County. But when her husband William Peter died in 1874, he was in Cass County (where his sons had moved and were farming or working). It would be a likely scenario that Polly died where they had been living in Titus County, and then Peter moved to Cass County (the next county south), where the older sons could help take care of the smaller children. At least one family source reports that Polly died in Douglasville, where her husband Peter Christian died in 1874. But if she died soon after the 1870 census, it is more likely they still lived in Titus County. She was probably buried in the Christian Cemetery in Mt Pleasant, which no longer exists. Some graves were found and moved to the Masonic Cemetery, and some of the gravestones. No graves or stones remain, and homes have been built over the old cemetery. The location of Polly's grave is uncertain. Polly's name is not one of the three in the Masonic Cemetery list. -- Ref Masonic Cemtery, Mt Pleasant, Texas, Hidden Ancestros, http://www.hiddenancestors.com/titustx/cemeteries/masonic-c_cem.htm? ------------------ Christian Cemetery This is a lost cemetery located in Mt. Pleasant at the corner of East First and South Lide Avenue, lying South of East First and East of South Lide. Members of the Christian, Fitzpatrick and other early day families of Titus County were buried in this cemetery. In 1903, F. W. Fitzpatrick, whose wife was Ella Christian, had Wesley Johnson and his son, âBlack Billâ Johnson to move the monuments to the Masonic Cemetery, and the Johnsons also dug into some of the graves and if any remains were found, all were placed in one box and it is presumed that these remains were buried in the Masonic Cemetery. There are several monuments on the Christian lot in the Masonic Cemetery, both to members of Christian and Fitzpatrick families that were moved from the Christian Cemetery. However, there were numerous graves in this cemetery on which no attempt was made to remove the remains, and doubtless many houses in the area have been built over the graves. Since there are no traces remaining of the graves, no further attempt to locate the cemetery has been expended. To reach the Christian Cemetery from the Titus County court house, take 1st Street (East) to the intersection with Lide Avenue. Turn right (South) onto Lide Avenue. The cemetery will lie as described above. -- TXGenWeb Project, Titus County, Texas, http://www.hiddenancestors.com/titustx/cemeteries/christian_cem.htm ------------------ "Peter's family moved from the vicinity of Blackton, AR to East Texas, near Douglasville in Cass County on the Sulphur River. Peter is living with Bart and his family a couple of doors down from Zene. Willie, not yet married, is living with a family named Brock, next door to Zene, working on their farm or farming a leased section as his own. I note that his occupation is reported as "Farming," not "Farm Labor" or "Laborer." --------------- Mary A "Polly" Unknown Christian Birth 1834 Alabama, USA Death 1870 Titus County, Texas, USA Early life of Mary is not known, including her parents and maiden name. Waldon was her first married name. Census ages make her birth about 1834. According to censuses she was born in Alabama. She married William Peter Christian as a widow in Calhoun County, Mississippi. In 1860 and 1870 they were living in Titus County, Texas. Polly and Peter had several children, the last one named William Peter, born after the August 1870 census. She also died in late 1870, and may have died in childbirth with Peter in September 1870. No specific date of death is known. The 1870 census reports were living in Mt Pleasant, Titus County. It is likely that Polly died there. Peter moved to nearby Cass County, where about 2 or 3 years later he remarried and then died in 1874. Polly was probably buried in the Christian Cemetery in Mt Pleasant, which no longer exists. Some graves were found and moved to the Masonic Cemetery, and some of the gravestones. No graves or stones remain, and homes have been built over the old cemetery. The location of Polly's grave is uncertain.
