Notes for Mary WEATHERS

It appears that George McSwain's wife Mary Weathers is the older sister of
Catherine. George was 21 years older than Catherine, and he was 43 years old
when they married. Most genealogies report that George had two wives, Mary
Weathers and Catherine Weathers.

Some report one wife, some with the name of Mary and some with the name of
Catherine. Catherine's mother was named Mary, and Catherine also had a sister
named Mary. At least one source reports Catherine as Mary Catherine. Mary
Weathers McSwian was born in 1796 and died in 1842.

There were apparently no children from the marriage of George and Mary.

Notes for Mary Polly WEATHERS

Sources usually refer to haer as Mary Polly, but I note that Polly was a comon
nickname for the given name Mary. Polly was probably her nickname and
somewhere along the way genealogies and/or family sources conflated the two as
separate names of this perosn.

Note that the middle initial of Robert in 1860 was P. In 1870, a Robert W is
living next door to his brother Virgil, working on the farm of Henry P
Thomason, and living in Henry's household. This Robert W is of the same age
as Robert P in 1860. This would appear to be Virgil's brother Robert.

It would appear that this is Virgil's brother Robert. But in 1870, I find
Robert, who is also reported as a twin of John, age 20, enumerated in his
father's household near Arkansas Post.

Wethers, John 20 M W b South Carolina [abt 1850]
Wethers, Robert 20 M W b South Carolina [abt 1850]

Thus I am uncertain about these 1870 records for Robert and Robert W Weathers.
One possibility, besides the difference of middle initial, is that Virgil's
brother's primary residence is with his father in Arkansas Post, but he is
working during the week at the Thomason farm (or staying there and working on
Virgil's farm next door), and he got enumerated twice. There are other
instances of double enumerations, more than one that I myself have found in
various Arkansas County censuses.

I note that this census reports that Virgil and Josephine have been married
for 35 years! That would mean they married about 1865. But in the 1870 and
1880 censuses, we know that his wife was Sarah H. Age and birth details
confirm this is a different person. But we see in the 1910 census, that this
is a second marriage for both Virgil and Josephine. So perhaps the 35 refers
to the total time, from the first marriage for both of them. This would match
the marriage date for Virgil and Sarah.

Tressie Nealy reports that Virgil Weathers married Josephine Williams 24 Jan
1887.

Note that the 1900 and 1910 censuses report that Josephine has had 6 children,
and only 3 are living. All I have seen records for are two, Robert and John,
recorded in the censuses of 1900 and 1910. This record also reports that
Virgil and Josephine have been married for 24 years, meaning they married
about 1886. If there were three children surviving, then there should have
been at least those 3 recorded in the 1900 census, when Robert was 7 and John
was 4. An older child would be at most 14 in 1900, but more likely about 13.

Tressie Nealy, a Weathers researcher, informed me that Virgil Weathers died
on/about 15 Aug 1916.

Notes for Asa H WEAVER

I had only a name to begin with from Tucker family records. The Stanley
genealogy provided some helpful details.

Asa H Weaver
Birth 28 JUL 1824 in Tennessee
Death 1862 in Panola Co. Miss
Marriage 12 Mar 1848 Tennessee to Mary C Bell
Children:
Sarah A Weaver b 1850
Mary (Molly) Roselee Weaver 1853-1911
-- Stanley Family,
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/11939510/person/1050093246?ssrc=&ftm=1

The Stanley tree links to some public records. But I was surprised to find
that the 1850 census the researcher links to Asa Weaver names the wife as
Martha C instead of Mary C. Details provided do fir Mary C Bell, reported by
various family genealogies as the wife of Asa Weaver. This record may be for
a different Asa Weaver. There are a lot of Weavers in Tennessee, and Asa
seems to appear a lot in the lineage.

1850 Federal Census, DeSoto County, Mississippi, 6 September, page 635,
Hse/Fam #75
Asa H Weaver 25 M Farming b TN
Martha C Weaver 20 F TN

In the 1860 census, we have some children, but the enumerator used only
initials to list most people. The M R here matches Mary Roselee, and the age
here does match her known birth date of 12 Oct 1853. The first child looks
like S J, but this enumerator's Is and Js look exactly alike. But genealogies
list Sarah as Sarah A. Ages of the parents vary, of course, as we commonly
find, so that is not definitive.

In 1860 they are in the same location, next door to now widowed Mary Hays.
Following the three names of the household, there is a notation about a John
Weaver that is not totally readable. There is no age or other personal
information given, except a Real Estate value given of $2000. This valuation
makes it seem this is another individual also named John Weaver.

Why is no personal information given, and why the extended explanation of his
work, which starts in the name field and continues through blocks for other
information like age, sex, and occupation? Or is this an explanation about
our John? And why add this unusual info only for him out of all the residents
of the district? Don't you just love historical research?

Except for the difference in Real Estate value, this appears to be a comment
about John. Ancestry analyzes this as another name in the household, but has
no age or other information, not any comments about the extended notation..
