Family Data Collection - Births Peter Weaver Father Daniel Weaver Birth 22 Sep 1772 VA A data collection reports that Peter Weaver married Rachel Glazing in 1800. Family Data Collection - Marriages Peter Weaver Spouse Rachel Glazener Marriage 1800 But in the 1800 census, they are reported with two children already, so it appears the marriage was at least as early as 1798. One genealogy (see below) reports that there was an earlier wife, whose name is not known, whom Peter married in 1898. But the marriage date they have for Rachel and Peter is 1808, not 1800 as the record I found. This first wife is a way of accounting for the two children in 1800, consistent with marriage to Rachel in 1800. 1800 Federal Census, Pendleton District, South Carolina Peter Weaver Head of Household 1 Male age 26-44 2 Females Under 10 1 Female 16-25 Peter married his second wife, named in genealogies as Elizabeth Porter, sometime after the death of his first wife Rachel in 1827. I have not found a record of the date of Peter and Elizabeth's marriage; only the state is reported in the following record transcribed by Ancestry. U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 Peter Weaver Birth Year 1772 Spouse Name Elizabeth Spouse Birth Year 1788 Marriage State Georgia In 1850, Peter is recorded in the 1850 census, taken in September after he died in June of that year. His wife Elizabeth is reported as a widow. 1850 Federal Census, Hall County, Georgia, 9 September, District 38, page 215, Hse/Fam #25 Elizabeth Weaver 62 F Widow $1000 Real Estate b SC P Weaver 19 F b GA D C Weaver 13 F b GA N P Weaver 13 M b GA H Weaver 8 M b GA P Weaver 77 M Blacksmith b VA Peter's will indicates his wife's name was Elizabeth. This would be his second wife, after the death of the mother of his children from Rachel Glazener. However, his death is reported as 12 June 1850 and the probation of his will as 1 July 1850. And the census above, from September 1850, reports him as a residence. I think this accounted for by the fact that, though the enumeration of this area actually did not occur until September (as was the case in many areas), the census date was 1 June. The record then should show the living members of the household on the census date, accounting for Peter's inclusion here (P Weaver). However, note that he is not shown as head of the household, and Elizabeth is reported as a Widow. This appears to represent the facts as of the actual date the enumerator visited their home, and probably also why Peter was not listed until all the (then living) members of the household had been listed. Several genealogies have additional information, but give no sources. Only one genealogy I have found, Roots and Branches, has Elizabeth's maiden name, Porter. Several details are provided that appear to be from family sources, but no sources or documentation at all is given in this genealogy. This genealogy says Elizabeth died about 1856. One or more others says it was about 1859. I have found no death record. This is also the only source that has the middle initial W for Peter. This Roots and Branches genealogy also reports an unknown first wife before Rachel Glazener, with no details. The date of 1878 appears to be correct for the first marriage, as noted in the comments above on the 1800 census, where two children are already reported in 1800. But the only marriage record for Rachel Glazener says the marriage occurs in 1800 (which also cannot be right). Perhaps Ancestry's transcription of the date as 1800 is incorrect. I have seen no image of the original record. No indication is given of a source for the idea of the first wife before Rachel. The Muster of 1624 again lists them, reporting that Samwell was 20 years old and had arrived in the Bonny Bess, and that Elizabeth was 12 and had arrived in the Warwick. Martin's Hundred had been hit particularly hard in the Indian raids of March 22, 1622. The initial official report said that 77 people had been killed, although it later transpired that some women reported killed were instead being held in captivity. The assault led to the temporary abandonment of the settlement. By 1623, 24 men and women were listed living at Martin's Hundred. Because of her young age, and the fact that she is listed separately, we know that Elizabeth was an orphan. It is unclear whether she was an orphan picked up on the streets of London and shipped to Jamestowne as a servant, or whether she arrived with her parents before the raid. Samwell and Elizabeth's son William Weaver (3648) was born about 1628, when Elizabeth would have been only 16. The following story was posted on a genealogy on Ancestry.com, but no source was given and the genealogist is anonymous. The information correlates with our 1850 and 1860 census records of Giles and his wife Rachel Horton being in Raleigh County, Virginia, which in 1863 became part of the new state of West Virginia.. -------------- In the 1830s Giles Webb and other members of his family sold out in Carroll County, Virginia and moved to Indiana. They settled about thirty miles from Indianapolis where they lived for about three years, but fever and chills were so bad they removed to Highland County, Ohio, where they lived for about one year; then moved again to a point on the Kanawha River near Malden. After living there for a while they moved to Big Coal River, and moved again in 1848/50 to Drews Creek in Raleigh County. They both died in the 1860s. There is record of nine children. -- Posted on an anonymous genealogy in Ancestry.com; no source given for the information -------------- -------------- I saw you posted your info to worldconnect a couple days ago - just a brief thank you. I descend from Sarah Webb b. ca. 1812 who married William Kirk. She fits into the 1820 census listing of Giles household. Someone related oral tradition that she was born in Giles County, which might refer instead to her father. Anyway I doubt I will find any other evidence, but she clearly was married to William as his second wife in the vicinity of Coal River between 1830 and 1832. I went through all the other Sarah Webbs from Giles County vicinity and they each married other men. I also read the story about travel to Indiana - incredible if true - but it seems strange to move back with land more available to the west. In earlier times some settlers moved back east due to the Indian threat. I have a few other ancestors (David King Perdue, Samson Robinette, etc) that moved about a lot as Giles Webb did. -- Curt Milton, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 31 December 2016 --------------
Odell Alonzo Edmonds 10 May 1919. Was actually the son of Lizze Webb and her first husband who was an Edwards. Odell took the name Edmonds and his descendants are still Edmonds. Elijah married Lizzie Webb after the death of "Maggie" in 1922. They had the following children. Harding - 23 May 1923 Merdia ( son ) Coledge - 14 Jun 1927 Lizzie Webb had two daughters from her first marriage, Pansy Edwards Johnson and Laura Edwards (unsure if she married [she never married]) -- Suzanne Kennedy, Geneanet Messaging to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 7 August 2015 The name Elizabeth does not apper in the 1900 census of her parents and siblings when she would have been about 12 years old. She wasmarried in 1906 att age 18. WOrking form those dates, it turns out that the child matching Elizabeth in this census was enumerated as Hanah (Hannah). Thus we can conclude that Elizabeth's name was Hannah Elizabeth (or perhaps Elizabeth Hannah).
