From the census, it is uncertain in exactly which month Lester was born.
Census day was 1 January, so if they followed the procedure, he should have
been one year old on 1 January, so his birthday could have been in December or
November 1919. But if they did what often happened, and went by the actual
date of entry, it was January 1920. His Social Security records confirm it
was January 1920.

Notes for Lou Ada Caldonia WEST

Some family records indicate the spelling of the name is Luada. The 1880
census transcription by Ancestry/FamilySearch (LDS) has her name as Lavada C.
Other family genealogies that have the Wests also spell her name as Luada.
Her children prefer the spelling Lou Ada. Her son Homer named his daughter
Lou Ada.

The Wests moved to Indian Territory. They lived in Pontotoc County of

In the 1900 census, when she was 13 years old, Lou Ada is listed in the census
as Loula Greene. Lou Ada's father had died and her mother Amanda Tatum West
married James Toliver Green.

Lou Ada Caldonia West married Toliver Jorile (Joe) Green. They lived in the
Center area, Pontotoc County, Chickasaw Nation.

Before her death in 1907, Lou Ada Caldonia West Green lived around Center.
The Green farm and old Center community were north of where the Center
intersection is now on Hwy 19. Their daughter Rettie (Alpharetta Mae) went to
school at Pickett School east of Center on the north side of the road.
-- Loretta Gregory Gay, personal communication to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 2
June 2018

My mother Lou Ila Jenkins gave me the name as Lou Ada. The latter is also the
name of a daughter of Homer and Dorothy Green. Gravestones for two of her
children have the mother's name as Lou Green, which seems to indicate that Lou
and Ada were two separate names for their mother.

The gravestone in Center Cemetery, Center, Oklahoma, has the name spelled Lou
Ada:

Notes for Louisa Artelissa WEST

Dorothy Mullinnix has this child listed under the name Louisa A in the list of
the children of Marick (Merrick) H West and Sarah Mullinax West. But she has
two separate entries for two different nicknames of Louisa Artelissa, as
though they were two children, Art and Elissa.

Both Art and Elissa are variations or her middle name, which is very unusual.
Since Dorothy did not have Louisa's middle name, she did not recognize these
two nicknames as forms of Louisa's middle name.

Maggie WEST DAVIS
Saint Charles Cemetery
Arkansas County, Arkansas
2 Jan 1876 - 14 Jun 1962

This is my great grandma. Davis was her first married name. In 1918 after
the death of first husband Alex Davis in 1916, she married Henry Oliver Marcum
[and was married to him] until his death in 1936. He is buried at the Chute
Cemetery.

Cyrus Lester Mcswain Sr, Tissie's son, was married to my grandma's sister
Eunice Davis and Kevin [McSwain]'s wife Gina comes through the Criswell line
from Lavada Mae West. Lavada Mae was daughter of Charles Winston West. He
was Eunice Davis' uncle.

Eunice and my grandma Lela Bridgette Davis were daughters of great grandma
Maggie West, who married Alex Davis first and had several girls. When Alex
died she married Henry Oliver Marcum. H O had two kids by his marriage to a
Rosie? (I can't find what her last name was.) She died then H O married
Maggie West then H O's boy Roy Marcum married Lela Davis, Maggie West Davis'
daughter.

So I wound up with two great grandparent sets that way on them. Roy and
Lela's daughter Maggie Marcum (mom) married my dad Floyd Utley.

Notes for Marick H WEST

Ron West provided the link to Mary West Rumera's genealogy of the West lineage.
For George West, born ca 1776, she has a list of children. Her list lacks a
George W West, thought by some West researchers to also be a son of George and
his wife Colista McHanie.

----------------
GEORGE WEST (BENJAMIN, WILLIAM, JOSEPH P) was born 1776 in Spartanburg County,
South Carolina, and died 1859 in Gilmer County, Georgia. He married EDITH
COLISTA MCHANIE Abt. 1797 in South Carolina. She was born Abt. 1778, and died
Aft. 1850 in Gilmer County, Georgia.

Children of GEORGE WEST and EDITH MCHANIE are:

The genealogies I have seen spell the name Merrick or Merick. Merrick is
listed as M H West in the 1850 census. He and his wife Sarah is living in
Gilmer County, Georgia, with two children, Columbus I and Hester Ann.
Enumerated on the previous page is his brother Benjamin West.

On the same page with Benjamin are Marick and Ben's parents, George age 74 and
wife Edith age 71. Sarah West's sister, Emmalissa Mullinax Stephens is living
4 houses away and enumerated on the same page. Sarah and Emmalissa's parents,
Isaac and Rachel Mullinax, are on the next page of the 1850 Gilmer census.

Merrick's name is spelled Marick in the census of 1860, when he and his family
are living in Towndsons District of Pickens County, Georgia.

Merrick died in October 1862. Annie Americus was born shortly before
Merrick's death. In the 1870 census Sarah is the head of the family, managing
the family farm with her children. She lives in the same area, with the Post
Office being Jasper, but the name of her township is now Truckwheel, instead
of Towndsons District. In 1870 she lived next door to Martin B and Thalia Ann
Mullins. Two door down the other way were Sam and Nancy Tatum, with children
including Amanda, who later married Sarah's son Gus (Augustus Lafayette).

The name of Artelissa here matches the child listed as Louisa A in 1860.

Merrick ended his life in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. According to
information compiled by Mike Taylor, Merrick was buried in Sanderstown,
Georgia. I expect he died in a hospital in Knoxville. He was buried in
Antioch Cemetery, Sanderstown.
