Richard Few
Spouse Jane Whitfield
Birth 1625 England

"RICHARD FEW settled in the upper part of Chester Towenship, Chester County,
where a list of landholdres for 1689 showed Richard Few owned 227 acres (J.
Smith Futhey and Filbert Cope, History of Chester County, Pennsylvania
(Philadelphia: Louis H. Everts, 1881) p. 31) RICHARD FEW was probably born
as early as 1625. He married first JANE (also appears as JOAN) WHITFIELD and
they were parents of five sons and one daughter.Jane Few, died 24, 4 mo.
[April ?], 1674 and Richard married second JULIAN ___, Louis Dale Carman, who
has made a study of Few family history, wrote: "his second wife Julian and his
son Isaac accompanied him to this country. They arrived in America prior to 12
September 1682 as on that date he was listed as one of the jurors at a court
held at Upland (Records of the Courts of Chester Co., Pa., 1681-1697
(Philadelphia: Patterson & White Co., 1910), p. 20). This was more than a
month earlier than William Penn's arrival at this tiny Swedish settlement, 29
October 1682, which he renamed Chester after the city of that name in
England."

name Jane or Joan Whitfield. No documentation is provided, but they provide
very complete family configurations and have considerable detail. Other
information matches children and thiier spouses reported in the Few Family

Notes for Katherine Frances WHITING

U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900
Richard Grigory
Birth 1660 VA
Wife Katherine
Marriage 1680

According to a later marriage record, Katherine married in 1702. Probate
records show that Richard Gregory's estate was in probate 10 November 1702.
So we surmised he must have died in early November or late October 1702. A
source found later reported in 1927 that he died in 1701. It apparently just
took that long to work out the details of the estate. Other cases show
similar time lags.

-------------------------
"Richard Gregory moved from Essex County to his plantation in King and Queen
County, returning to Essex again, where he died in 1701.

"Richard Gregory married Katherine (whose surname is unknown), widow of Thomas
Bourne. Mrs. Katherine Bourne-Gregory married, third, Thomas Snead. Mrs
Katherine Bourne-Gregory-Snead died prior to March, 1710-11."

-- "Gregory Family of Rappahannock and Essex Counties, Virginia," in Winston
of Virginia and Allied Families, by Clayton Torrence (Richmond, Virginia:
Whittet & Shepperson, 1927), p 242

GRIGORY, KATHERINE Widow of Richard, married Thomas Snead
Marriage 1702 Richmond and Essex Counties, Virginia, USA
Essex County Marriage Book, page 123

They may have married later in November or some time in December 1702. The
inventory was not presented and recorded until 10 July 1703. It is noted as
being presented to the court by "Thomas Snead and his wife Katherine." So
they were married certainly by July 1703.

Comment Katherine, wid. of Richard
Book D&W 11, Original Source Page 41, 42

When Katherine died, all her inheritance and those of her children with Thomas
Bourne and Richard Gregory fell to her husband Thomas Snead. They were minors
at time of writing his wil in 1700 and his death in 1701. They later had to
sue Thomas Snead to spur him to make distribution of their inheritance. The
ultimate fate of the three youngest, Elizabeth, John and Sarah is unknown.

1 Richard Gregory by his will, dated February 17, 1700, bequeathed to his sons
Richard and John and to his daughter Elizabeth certain lands which by their
descriptions in the said will were certainly in Essex County; to his daughters
Sarah and to his sons in law [step-sons]: Thomas and William Bourne he
bequeathed lands which by their descriptions were at that date in King and
Queen County. later King William. (See will of Richard Gregory, above).
It is not positively known what eventually became of Elizabeth, John and Sarah
Gregory. All four of Richard Gregory's children were under age when their
father made his will in February, 1700. At Essex Court, December, 1712, John
Gregory and Sarah Gregory were given liberty to choose their guardians and
they thereupon made choice of William Bourne, who gave bond for his
guardianship in the sum of £100 sterling (Essex County Records). For
suggestions as to what may have eventually become of John, Elizabeth and Sarah
Gregory, see post page 247, the discussion in the notes to the will of their
brother, Richard Gregory, who died in 1725.

Melvin Whittemore (Whttamore/Whitamore) is Serina/Sanora's brother. The name
Serina is found in some genealogies fo this family. The spelling of her name
in the census as Snara made me wonder if her name was Sinara/Senara instead of
Serina. Her grave has Sanora. The handwritten name on her marriage record
could be Sonora or Sanora.

They were enumerated together in the 1880 census, then in 1900 Sarah is again
a widow.

In 1880, it looks like the one Stroud child, Ema (Emma) is the same child
named Sarah Stroud in the 1870 census. She was reported as 9 years old in
1870, and Ema is 20 in 1880. She is the only Stroud child in the new Simmons
blended household, matching Sarah Stroud's status as the youngest child in her
widowed mother's 1870 household.

The Robnette Genealogy provide considerable detail about William Henry Holden

Holden died.

His date of death is not on the stone, in the photo taken in 2008. But the
death record cited in this memorial notes that he died in 1978, 6 years after
his wife Gerturde Lyles Glazener Wilbanks. This makes us wonder if Clyde was
actually buried somewhere else?
