In the 1860 census, the ages of the children tell us they moved from Tennessee
to Missouri about 1855.

In the 1870 census, Early's wife is named Mary. The children of the family
look right, and match the earlier reports. Is Mary Nancy's other name? None
of the family sources mention a Mary. And Nancy is reported to have died in
1870 or 1871. No Mary is reported among the three wives of Early. I have not
found the marriage record for Nancy or Early's second wife, the widow Sarah
Jones Duckworth.

1870 Federal Census, Fulton County, Arkansas, 1 July, Big Spring Township, PO

Killmore, Jennie 11 F W born Arkansas [matches Margaret J of 1860, who was
Margaret Jane]
Killmore, Sarah 9 F W born Arkansas
Killmore, John 2 M W At Home born Missouri

The birth states of the children indicate a lot of moving north-south. It
looks like they moved from Tennessee to Missouri soon after the end of the
Civil War. James was born there about 1857-1858, but they weren't in Missouri
long before moving somewhere south of the border into Arkansas, where Jennie
was born about 1858 or 1859.

Douglas County, Missouri is just one county away for Arkansas in central
Missouri. A little after the 1960 census, they moved back into Missouri,
where John was born about 1862. By 1870 they are back across the border in
Fulton County. Fulton County, Arkansas, borders Missouri in the Ozarks.

However, other information that turned up related to this family and a Find a

Nathaniel and Rebecca. The memorial for Nathaniel Jefferson Williams,
matching this census, is linked to a memorial for his wife under the name of
Rebecca Edens Williams. A memorial on Find a Grave in the name Miriam Rebecca
Bobo has her husband named as Nathaniel G WIlliams. Miriam Rebecca's memorial
is not linked to a memorial for her husband. That grave has different birth
and death dates than those for Rebecca Edens Williams.

Notes for Nicholas WILLIAMS

In the 1900 census his name is transcribed by Ancestry.com as Holden Williams.
Most genealogies have taken this and other Ancestry transcription errors at
face value without actually analyzing the name themselves.

The name is muddled because of the infuriating pattern of the tally figuring
directly over the name of the head of the household. The darker strokes of
the name itself looks to me more like Nicholas. This is also how at least one
genealogy reports his name. There is a matching grave in Shiloh Cemetery,
where his wife is buried, in the name of Nicholas Williams. The gravestones
have matching inscriptions: "Mother" and "Father." On his wife's death
certificate, his name appears to be Mr N Williams, matching the name Nicholas.

In his wife's death information, his name is transcribed by Ancestry.com as M
N Williams, but it looks like Mr N Williams. This name is confirmed in his
own death record, with the name again as simply Nicholas Williams. I have not
found any record with a middle name. He died in Asheville, North Carolina,
apparently at his son David's home. His residence is still reported as
Jefferson City, Tennessee, where he was buried.

Though the death certificate reports that he was to be buried in Jefferson
City, Tennesee, his grave is in Shiloh Cemetry, whose official address is in
Rutledge. Rutledge is in Grainger County, Tennesee, where his wife died in
1939 and was also buried. But Grainger County is just north of Jefferson
County. And the cemetery is only a few miles outside Jefferson City, which is
near the county line.

It is uncertain whether Mr Williams died or Rosa divorced him. No death
information has been found. There is a record that seems to match William for
the 1920 census, but it is in Parker County, Texas. His wife in that census
record is named Fannie. The child Roy seems to match William and Rosa's son
Roy. No further informatoin has been obtained on the Parker County family.

Notes for Susan Elizabeth WILLIAMS

In censuses she is Susan Williams, but in the 1900 census she is Stellah.
Earlier genealogies generally reported her as Stella. More now seem to use
Susan. The name Stella is eerie, because Jacob's brother Daniel also married
a Susan Stella named Hannon. I suspect the name Stella/Stellah is a confusion
at some levels. Reliable records and family sources indicate her proper name
was Susan Elizabeth.

One genealogy provides some family details, though no documentation is given.
But Susan's name is given here as Stella and no parents are reported. The
other information fits Susan's family configuration.

Return to Susan Elizabeth WILLIAMS

Notes for Thomas J WILLIAMS

Genealogies report that Thomas married Elizabeth Poteet or Porter on Dec 9,
1880. A marriage license of 8 Dec 1880 in Madison County, Mississippi, has
the name of the bride as Lizzie V Pritchard. Further, the birth date of
Thomas' daughter Beulah Mae is January 1880, 11 months before that marriage.
It would appear to me that Elizabeth (Lizzie) V Pritchard and Elizabeth
Poteet/Porter are two different persons.

Yet the memorial manager for Elizabeth Poteet reports her gravestone has her
death date as 1 Jul 1919. No photo is provided to cnfirm the name. The name
Porter may have been supplied by the memorial manager, referencing the
obituary. This may be Elizabeth Pritchard.

Some time after 1888, when Frank was born, they moved to Johnson County,
Texas. In the 1900 census Thomas was enumerated with his wife reported as
Elizabeth.

If the 1910 census is correct, it does confirm that both Thomas and LIzzie had
been married only once. They had been married for 30 years, thus married
about 1880, matching the two reports of marriage: one marriage record of 8
December 1880, and Elizabeth Porter's obituary with the marriage date of 9
December 1880. The three different maiden names, Poteet, Porter and
Pritchard, are still a mystery.
