There is quite a discrepancy in age here between the child reported as Wiley

apparently been adopted by is stepfather. There was no child named Wiley Lane

Notes for Mary C WILLIAMSON

Several genealogies of the Terry lineage have George W and Mary C (or M C)
Williamson, but mostly lack other details. Terry Pendley reports the first
name as Mary, and also has a date of their marriage: 01 Nov 1865 in
Chatsworth, Murray County, Georgia. This fits known information about the
family of William Barney Terry and their residences. Ancestry Personal Tree,
Terry Pendley,
http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/person.aspx?tid=861748&pid=-162463323 Until
February 2008, I could find no documentary evidence of George and Mary C's
marriage or family. On 11 February I found the 1930 census with Mary as a
widow in her son's home in Ripley County, Missouri. She was age 82, and her
son Jacob was 54, married to a Mary A Terry, age 29. There was one son of the
young couple, Jacob P, age 10. This lets us know some missing facts, even
without the intervening details from earlier censuses. 1930 Federal Census,
Ripley County, Missouri, 9 April, Union Township, District 14, page 3A, Warm
Springs Arkansas Rd, Hse/Fam #43 Terry, John W Head M W 54 Married at age 22
MO MO MO Farmer Terry, Mary A Wife F W 29 [Age at marriage not reported] OK
KS KS Terry, Jacob P Son M W 10 Married at age 22 MO MO OK Terry, Mary C
Mother F W 82 Widow MO Germany France [b abt 1848] First of all, we learn
that Mary is a widow, so George died before 1830. We learn also that Mary's
parents both were born in Europe, her father in Germany and her mother in
France. Mary's age tells us she was born about 1848, and her birthplace is
reported as Missouri. Her son John was born in Missouri, which would seem to
indicate that George W and Mary C met and married in Missouri. One genealogy,
however, gives us one of the few details anybody reports. Terry Pendley says
they were married on 01 Nov 1865 in Chatsworth, Murray County, Georgia. This
is a location where members of the Terry family lived. Pendley, however, does
not give his source. Further documentation is needed to clarify the meeting
and marriage of George W and Mary C and how they arrived in Missouri. Since
Mary was born in Missouri and we later find her family there, and the one son
we know of was born there, this is strong circumstantial evidence that Mary
and George married in Missouri. This census entry tells us that George W died
before 1930. We also find that this is the second marriage for the son John W
Terry. The census tells us he was first married at age 22, so this has to be
his second wife. They were married about 21 years ago, when she would have
been about 18. Her age at first marriage is for some reason left blank in
this census.

Notes for Alice Miney WILSON

Alice is well-documented on several genealogies, with photos and documents, and
testimonies from descendants.

Alice's father and mother's name is documented in her burial order that names
her parents Leif Wilson (called Lafe in a couple of genealogies) and Lora
Young. The informant for this document was her son J C Barnett, son of James
Christopher Columbus (Chris) Barnett.

I know of no children from Alice's first marriage. Family sources tell us
that Alice married Christopher Columbus Barnett in 1900.

"My great grandmother Alice Wilson Hancock Hasty: ... She married Christopher
Columbus Barnett and they had a son, my grandfather, James Columbus Barnett."
-- Kitty Byers, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 21 February 2013

Alice's son Ervin James Columbus Barnett was born 18 Nov 1904. This child
does not appear with Alice in her new husband's household in the 1910 census.
In the 1910 census, Alice has been married to William Levi Hasty for three
years. So Chris Barnett had died by 1907.

Some genealogies have names for all Alice's husbands and some errors of
various kinds, with incorrect husbands, and mixed families of similar names in
different states for the same person. Several have the name of her last
husband as James Walter Hancock. This is corroborated by other documents
locating James Walter in Holdenville, Oklahoma. The same church is mentioned
for both their funerals, linking them.

Record searches for her Hancock husband turn up many individuals with the name
Walter Hancock or James Hancock in several Texas counties, Arkansas, Arizona
and Oklahoma, with overlapping dates and different families. Several
genealogies report her last husband as James Walter Hancock, but attach
conflicting censuses or other records.

Phyllis, thanks for sharing. I, too, remember playing in the school yard
across the street from Grandma Hancock's house, and going to the neighborhood
store a few doors down to buy a soda or candy. Grandma Hancock's yard was
filled with flowers and completely void of grass; she kept it that way.
However, I don't remember ever being served 'possum -- and that I would have
remembered.

Alice's memorial on Find a Grave provides helpful informaiton to clarify some
details and add dome concerning her life and family.

This reports another husband, R P Potts, married about 1918, between Hasty and
Hancock. This is not clear to me form the record. In the 1930 some members
of a Potts family are enumerated in her household in 1930. However the
husband is reported as a step son-in-law of Alice. If the husband named Potts
was a (step)son in law, he would have married her step daughter. This is
true, because her step daughter Florence Potts here is Florence Hasty,
daughter of Alice's deceased husband William Hasty and his previous wife.
Perhaps the report below suggests that R P Potts is Florence's husband's
father, and that her mother was previously married to James Potts' father.

Several genealogies report the marriage to R P Potts as follows. I have found
no reference to this marriage in records. No genealogy I have seen has any
documentation.

Marriage to R P Potts
29 Mar 1918 - Age: 35 Caddo, Caddo, Oklahoma

A couple of genealogies have a photo attached of one John Potts and "Grandma
Hasty," with a very young Christine Barnett. This sounds like the right Alice
Barnett Hasty. But the man's (presumably husband's) name here is John, not R
P.

In 1925, the Iowa census includes excellent detail on each individual that
informs us about family relationships and details on each individual. Amanda
has married Olaf Jensen, also of Danish extraction, born in Kansas. On Olaf
Jensen's name the A is open and was mistaken for a U by the Ancestry
transcriber. Most of the As on this page are open like that, including the A
in Denmark, which looks like Dunmark in many instances. Amanda also looks
like Amunda. (It is possible that the enumerator actually meant to spell the
name Oluf, based on the sound if he was an Anglo, and unfamiliar with this
common Scandinavian name. But on the other evidence of the page, I have kept
the normal spelling of Olaf.)
