Notes for Elizabeth Ann WITHAM

In most censuses and other references, she is called Eliza. Her grave gives
here name as Eliza A Shoemaker. But in the 1885 census, where she is the Head
of the household, she is reported as Elizabeth. Eliza is a common short for
Elizabeth, but also was used as a primary name.

In the 1850 census, she is only 18 years old, and is reported to have been
married only within the last year. So the older children are not her
children. And even the baby may be the child of William's first wife, though
I think it is likely Hiram is Eliza's child.

1850 Federal Census, Delaware County, Ohio, 26 September, Oxford Township,

Between 1850 and 1856, William and Eliza moved from Ohio to Iowa. They were
in Jefferson County, Iowa for the 1856 state census. In the 1856 census, Mary
Ann is reported in the position and matching age for Francis, a son, in the
1850 and 1860 census. The last child Eli is reported as 0 years old, and born
in Iowa. The last child before him, Annette, was born in Ohio a little over 2
years ago. so they moved from Ohio to Iowa about 1854. We might assume they
moved directly to Jefferson County where they are now, and that Eli (Wesley)
was born in that county, but I have not found any more definitive evidence to
confirm that.

In 1860, they are in Adair County, living in the Grand River Township. By

William died in 1879, and in the 1880 census, Eliza is reproted as the head of
the household with several children sti lin tehhousehjold. I foudn it
interesting that 17-year-old Carrington is reproted as a Farm Laborer while
the older sons, aged 24 and 20, are simply "At Home." Carrington matches
Joseph from 1870. No one is reported as illiterate this time, and the two
younger ones are "In School."

Notes for James Herman WOMMACK

-----------------------
James Herman Wommack

Herm went to work at a very early age. He was working for the railroad laying
track across Cass and Morris counties when he and Punk met and married after a
short courtship. They lived as sharecroppers for many years until settling
down in Cass County, in the community of Dalton, where they lived until their
death in 1993. Herm and Ethel rarely spent time apart throughout their 65
years together.

Ethel died in Dallas, TX, following heart surgery on November 13, 1993. Herm
was left alone for the first time in a very long time. At his wife's
graveside he was overheard to say, "Walk slow Ole Woman. I'll catch up before
you get there."

Two weeks later, Herm fell while getting dressed for his sister Leona's
funeral and broke his hip. He developed pneumonia as a complication and died
just 22 days after his beloved "Ole Woman."

Notes for Albert Sanders WOOD

Albert and his wife Jessie Mae Williams adopted a 3-year-old boy in 1939. His
original name was Dan Terry. His parents, who were both originally from
Oklahoma, were Rama Terry and Beatrice Addie Merryman, They named their new
son Dan Terry Wood. In his brother Kenneth Paul Terry's obituary, his name
was reported as Daniel. Dan's daughter contacted me to give me his correct
full name and his basic adoption information

------------------
You have my father listed as Daniel Wood which is incorrect, I'm not sure why
Kenneth's obituary had him listed as such. His correct full name is Dan
Terry Wood and he was the last biological son of Beatrice and Rama Terry.

Here is my father's information:

adoptive parents name is found in Arizona birth records. This is a birth
certificate of live birth for Dan Terry Wood, born in St Joseph Hospital in
Phoenix, reporting Albert Sanders Wood and Jessie Mae Williams as his adoptive
parents. No mention is made of other parents. One section reports he was

Dan's daughter informs me that her father's full proper name was Dan Terry
Wood. It is unclear why Kenneth's obituary has his name as Daniel instead of
Dan.

------------------
You have my father listed as Daniel Wood which is incorrect, I'm not sure why
Kenneth's obituary had him listed as such. His correct full name is Dan
Terry Wood and he was the last biological son of Beatrice and Rama Terry.

Here is my father's information:
