In the 1880 census, Lucinda's state of birth is reported as Virginia instead of North Carolina. This is consistent in the records for daughter N J and son G W next door, so I tend to think this is the correct report instead of North Carolina, as in 1860 and the 1900 record for Nancy, after her mother's death. The 1850 census, which I found after the 1880 census, also reprots her as born in Virginia. 1850 Federal Census, Cleveland County, North Carolina, 27 August, page 294, Hse/Fam #456 George Mcwain 30 M Farmer $100 Real Estate b NC [b abt 1820] Lucinda Mcwain 32 F VA [b abt 1818] 1880 Federal Census, Cleveland County, North Carolina, 1 June, Township 7, Sandy Run, District 71, page 1 (Scan 569A), Hse/Family #3 George McSwain W M 59 Farmer NC NC NC [b abt 1821] Lucinda McSwain W F 61 Wife House Keeper VA VA VA [b abt 1819] N J McSwain W F 27 Dau NC NC VA [b abt 1853] Lucinda Wright McSwain Birth unknown Death unknown Dates unreadable Spouse George Washington McSwain (1821 - 1900) Children: Sarah Hamrick McSwain Champion (1842 - 1915) Margaret Susannah McSwain Melton (1843 - 1926) John David McSwain (1846 - 1913) J.
