Notes for James L YEARY

I have not found Jim Yeary in the 1900 census. His death certificate says he
was born in Oklahoma, Territory. His WWI draft registration says he was born
in Marietta, which was in Indian Territory, not Oklahoma Territory. The year
of birth is given in all sources as 15 September 1889, except his WWI draft
registration, which says the year was 1890.

A family genealogy reports that Jim married Pearl Norris on 30 January 1909.
-- Ancestry Trees, Norris Family,

The 1910 census reports Jim and Pearl have been married 0 years! The census
does not report states of birth for either of them or their parents, nor give
an age for either.

Notes for Abraham Huddleston YORK

Abraham Huddleston York was married to a woman named Laura in the 1970 census,
with their first child born only in April of that year. In a York Family
genalogy I found the name and marriage info, but undocumented. I have not
found a record. Huddleston's two wives may have been sisters or cousins.

The oldest information on the commonly-reported family of Abraham Huddleston
York and Emma Louise Wozencraft family was the 1880 census. The oldest child
Thomas is listed last, normally indicating the child of a previous wife. The
1900 census confirms this, reporting that Huddleston and Emma have been
married 26 years, that is, they married about 1874, about 3 years after Thomas
was born and one year before Bersaba was born. Thomas in the 1880 census
matches William of the 1870 census.

Hoff, William W M [can't read age] Boarder Married Miner [no birth state info]

Since the oldest child, Thomas, is listed last, he is likely the child of a
previous wife. This is the normal pattern of listing in censuses. This would
be Laura reported in the 1870 census. That would mean that Huddleston's first
wife Laura died between 1871 and 1874, allowing about a year before Bershaba's
birth in about 1875.

If we look closer we will see that this Thomas is the same child reported as
William in the 1870 census. William was reported born in April 1970. Later
censuses report Thomas' ages consistent with birth in 1970 or 1871. Later
censuses confirm this further, when he is sometimes listed as William T or Tom
W, and either single name.

Note that she was reported as 9 years old in 1900, with a birth date in
January 1891. This is three years older and earlier than her Social Security
record reports. If the Social Security date is correct, that would mean her
parents or the enumerator mistook their 6-year-old for a 9 year old! Her age
of 18 in 1910 is clsoer to 1900. She or whoever gave Social Security the
birth date may have just been remembering wrong.

There are errors in much of the York family information on some genealogies.
The name of Margaret Crabtree appears to be an error here, due to the
confusion of different York lineages. York researchers I am in touch with are
working to sort this all out.

To the best of my knowledge, Sarah Blake York did not have a middle name.
However, their youngest daughter was named Sarah Virginia York.

Josiah was born in Washington County, Tennessee, and died 26 May 1879 Polk
County, Georgia. He is buried in the Yorkville Community Cemetery, Yorkvilee,
Georgia.

Sarah and Josiah had 11 children 5 sons and 6 daughters - all 5 of their sons
fought in the Civil War and all served mostly in Company A, Georgia 1st
Calvary.

I have removed William York as the oldest child of Captain William York since
the data I have supports a man whose DNA has been traced to the 'other' York
family in Randolph County, North Carolina. Surely Captain William York had a
son, William, but if he did, he died young, since I cannot find any
information about him.

The date of birth reported for Josiah on his memorial on Find a Grave is 15
Oct 1799. But his gravestone has birth as just the year 1804. Other
genealogy sources report he was born in 1797.

death or William.

------------------
Josiah Cowan York Sr. is my 2nd great-grandfather through his youngest son,
Abraham Huddleston York who went by the name 'Hud' or A.H. since he never
wanted to be called Abraham as a good CSA cavalryman. All five York brothers
fought with the Georgia 1st Calvary - and the oldest brother, Thomas, was
mortally wounded in the battle of Big Hill (part of the Battle of Atlanta).

As far as the graves I have been trying to find someone near Yorkville to
build a small barrier around the graves of Josiah and Sarah. I have added a
military marker in memory of Josiah's father, Captain William York,
Revolutionary War soldier. Josiah fought with the Tennessee Mounted Gunmen
under Jackson in the 2nd Seminole Indian War. I just wish I could find
anything about William that can be verified!
