Notes

  • In the 1920 census, Lucy is divorced from George Tugman, and is living with here two sons in Rock Lake Precinct, Platte County, Wyoming.  In this census the family name is written Tugmon, rather than Tugman, as on census entries for the previous Tugman generations and the boys in later life.

The youngest son, J D , is only 8 months old and was born in Wyoming.  It appears that George divorced Lucy after they moved to Wyoming, or they divorced and she moved to Wyoming before J D was born.

In this census the birthplace of both Lucy's parents is reported as Tennessee, which is correct from other records and family sources.  However, in 1930, when she is back in Oklahoma, and married to Lawrence Carter, her father is reported as born in Georgia.  I cannot think of any explanation for that.

Her first child with Lawrence, Billie Joe, is 6 years old in the 1930census, so I estimate they were married in about 1922 for Billie to be born before April 1923 (to be 6 years old in the April census 1930).  Billy Joe's actual birth date is 24 January 1924.
