Notes

  • Daniel David Green went by Dave.  His uncle Daniel David went by Daniel or Dan.

I found an entry in the 1900 census that appears to be our Daniel David Green.  He is a single young man of 16, living with and working fora Thompson family in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory.  Head of household John W Thompson is white, with two white parents, but his wife and children are reported as Choctaw.  His wife's father was also white.

1900 Federal Census, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, 13 June, Township 4, North Range 2E, District 134, page 22B, Hse #13, Fam #14
Thompson, Jno W  Head W M June 1846 33 Married 10 years  Mosouri [sic] Mosouri Mosouri Farmer
Thompson, Minnie G Wife In F Jan 1894 26 Married 10 years  5 children/5 living Indian Territory Indian Territory Unknown
Thompson, Mammie G  Dau In F  Sept 1891  8 Indian Territory  MosouriIndian Territory
Thompson, Robert Lee  Son In (Choctaw) M  June 1892  7 Indian Territory  Mosouri  Indian Territory
Thompson, Charles W  Son In (Choctaw) M  July 1894  5 Indian Territory  Mosouri  Indian Territory
Thompson, Emma A  Dau In (Choctaw) F  Apr 1897  3 Indian Territory  Mosouri  Indian Territory
Thompson, Jessie M  Dau In (Choctaw) F  June 1899  11mos Indian Territory  Mosouri  Indian Territory
Green, Daniel D  Servant  W M  May 1883  16 Single  Indian Territory (No birth place given for parents) Farm Laborer

Daniel's birth date is a year later than that recorded in the Marlow Cemetery registry online, 23 May 1882.  Another anomaly is that his age had originally been entered as 17, which would be right for a May 1883 birth date, at this June census.  But it was crossed out and changed to 16.  A birth date in May 1882 would mean an age of 18.  So the birth date and age are not definitive.  Lack of birth place for parentsalso leaves out another good cross-check on identity.

In the 1910 census, Dave and Fannie have just gotten married, recorded as married "0 years."  In this census Dave is listed as Dave D.  Other members of the family have switched the order of names also to putthe preferred name first, even if it was the second name.

1910 Federal Census, Stephens County, Oklahoma, 19 May, Wall Township, District 245, page 14B, Hse #264, Fam #267
Green, Dave D  Head M W 27 Married 0 yrs OK TN TN Farmer
Green, Fannie E  Wife F W 21 Married 0 yrs TX GA AL

Fannie is recorded here as Fannie E, which matches her name on her gravestone. In 1900 she had been recorded as Fannie D.

Both Dave's parents are reported here as born in Tennessee.  This is odd, since we have birth information for them.  Jackson was born in Georgia before the family moved to Texas.  Census information in 1920 and 1930 both report Clarinda's birthplace as Illinois.

Parental birth places differ also for Fannie, whose father is said tohave been born in Georgia.  But the 1900 census said he was born in Texas.  Her mother is still reported born in Alabama.
