Notes

  • The name of the child born in 1890 is unreadable due to a huge smudge.  The first letter is an L, and two stems are visible.  It could be Lu, as so many genealogies have concluded.  In 1910 the name appears to be written as Lienelin.  The writing is scrawled.  Comparison with other entries on the page make it appear the name is Lienelin.

    Marion Mixon, a cousin and coresearcher on this and related families, deterrmined from sources that her name was Ellen, with nickname Lou.  It is possible the name intended here in the 1910 census was Lou Ellen.  It occurs to me that the enumerator might have written Lieuelin, for the words Lieu Ellen, spelling Lieu instead of Lou.  This would match the configuration of the letters, but seems odd.

    A Find a Grave memorial does confirm her name as Lou Ellen.  This is the sequence of her names on her death certificate.  And despite the strange spelling this is the name sequence in the 1900 census.

    There are different Tahoka Cemetery lilstings.  The following Funeral Home list had no Terrys.

    I finally found a master list of the cemetery and found the Terrys, including Lou Ellen and her husband.

    Ernest Terry married first Francis Temperance Eliza Jane Hatley in 1900 and they had three children:

    2) Lonely Vivian Terry Roussa Mullins Brown, who died in 1993.
    3) Joyce "Boysie" Terry, who never married, died in 1992.

    After they divorced, Ernest married Ellen Lou Philpot in 1912 and they had three children:

    The SSDI reports that Ellen's residence at the time of death was Tahoka, Texas.  The Texas Death Index reports that she died in neighboring Dawson County.  The SS records report her name as Ellen Terry, while the Texas Death Index reports her as Lou Terry.  The name on her death certificate is Lou Ellen Terry.
