Bernie Sam Horton, age 73 departed this life June 4, 2015. He was born in St. Charles, AR on September 19, 1941 to George and Maude Barnard Horton. He was married to Charlene White Horton for 48 years. He served 4 years in the United States Sir Force as a military police. He worked at the DeWitt Shoe Factory for 39 1/2 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Alfred Horton, Melvin Horton, Sr., Alvin (Babe) Horton, Herbert Horton, infant sister. He is survived by his wife and children: Susan and Dennis Watkins of DeWitt and Greg Horton of St. Charles, and a granddaughter Ellie Kate Watkins and one brother Homer (Sue) Horton of DeWitt.
He is also survived by sisters-in-law: Marilee and Maryanne Horton, and Diane Greenhill; brother-in-law Jerry White and wife Georgene; several nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends.
Bernie graduated from St. Charles High School in 1959, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He loved to garden, to watch Arkansas Razorback games and to deer hunt.
Bernie was a cattle rancher all his life. He was a member of Arkansas Cattlemen's Association, Grand Prairie Cattlemen's Association, and was a member of the American Legion.
