Notes

• In the 1900 census, Annie was reported as 52 years old, with a birth date of January 1848.  This is a match for her husband's reproted birth date and age as 1848 and 52.  But in the 1930 census, she was reported as only 72, instead of 82.  The 1940 census is consistent with that, reporting her age as 82.  These later censuses would make her birth in about 1858.  (William died before the 1930 census.)

  The dates of immigration and number of yerars in the US indicate that William and Annie married in the US, presumably in Fremont County, Colorado.  Annie's husband William J Phillips died before the 1930 census.  In that census Annie wsa reproted as a widow.  Annie's daughter Abbie had moved into Annie's home, with her four children, after Abbie's husband Robert A Boyd had left them.  Their residence area were reported as Precinct #29 of Fremont County, apparently on Annie's farm.

  Age reports for Annie are not consistent in the 1900 and 1910 censuses.  Note that Annie is exactly the same age in both censues, age 52.  The 1910 census is consistent with the 1930 and 1940 censues.  But William's matches in both 1900 and 1910.  But 1920 is closer to 1900.  1920 age is 4 years younger relative to 1910.  The difference then between 1920 and 1930 is only 5 years.
  
  The birth date for Abigail in 1900 matches the birth date on her other records, so seems to support the accuracy of the 1900 census on other birthdates.  The other children's match within one year.
  
  Lacking other records for the other children at this point, the conclusion is that Annie misreported her age, then stuck with the younger age for the next two censuses.  We notice that in this era overall, focus on ages was not as specific and exact as it became inthe progress of the 20th century.

  I found that Annie's gravestone reports the birth year according to her revised, later, date in the censuses, as discussed above.  But the manager of her memorial on Find a Grave reports the birth date reported in the 1900 census, as we also concluded in this genealogy.
