Notes
- "Willis Green, born 1805 in Rutherford County, NC, and died in 1871 in Tippah Co. MS. I have seen a lot of information that points to him being the son of Henry Green (b. 1775, d. 1834 m. Nancy Reeves), who was possibly the son of Major William Marion Green (b. 1753, d. 1832, married Mary McEntire."

"Willis Green b. 1805 Rutherford Co., NC d. 1871 in Tippah Co. MS .... I've found some information that suggests he was the son of Henry Green and Nancy Reeves, but nothing that ties it down for sure. Willis married Polly Smart on 24 Mar 1828 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Willis is my 3G-grandfather."

-----------------------
Willis & Polly Green had four sons enlist in the Confederacy, William & Joseph didn't return. Willis Green is most likely a son of Henry and Nancy Green as known he was born in Rutherford County, North Carolina in 1805 and his age fits in the family of Henry and Nancy Reeves Green on the 1810-1830 Rutherford County, NC censuses. Per these census records, there are 3 males and 2 females unaccounted for children of this family and Willis definately would fit one of these. His son, Henry Reeves Green, was named for someone and this researcher believes that it was for his probable grandmother, Nancy Reeves.
The names of Willis' other sons, Joseph, William and John, match the names of their probable uncles. Willis was living next door to his probable brother, Elias Green, on the 1830 Rutherford Co., NC census. I believe that Willis and Polly Smart Green followed Polly's father, Joseph Smart, from Rutherford County, North Carolina to Tippah County, Mississippi in the mid 1840's and none of Willis' siblings went with them. Both the Joseph Smart family and the Willis Green family are in Tippah County, MS on the 1850 census.
