DEATH 12 May 2016 (aged 78) Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas, USA
BURIAL De Witt Cemetery, De Witt, Arkansas County, Arkansas
Pauline Lackey Gossom, age 84, of Pine Bluff, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 12, 2016.
She was at peace with God, and was ready at any time that He was ready to bring her home. Pauline is now rejoicing with her loved ones who are already in God’s Kingdom.
Also known as “Polly”, “Mom”, “Meme” or “Aunt Poppy”, she was born May 17, 1931 in Almyra, Arkansas. Her parents were the late Edd and Naomi Bryant Johnson, and she attended school at DeWitt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Robert Lackey, whom she married in 1948, and Walter Gossom, whom she married in 1969: her only son, Ralph Lackey; two daughters, Terri Lackey and Linda Lackey Hurd. Also predeceasing her are three brothers, Edward Johnson, Johnny Johnson, and James Johnson; along with two sisters, Ruby Johnson and Lois Johnson Kesler.
Pauline is survived by her daughter, Kim Williams and husband Tim of Woodlawn; her grandchildren, Ben Lackey and wife Lydia and Julie Chambers, all of White Hall, Meghan Schimmel and husband Joseph of Stuttgart, and Trent Williams of Woodlawn. She is also survived by a sister, LaFern Sebree of Almyra; two special sisters-in-law, Lillian Lackey Horton of Pine Bluff and Betty Lackey Bateman of DeWitt; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was an active member of Meadowview Baptist Church, where she was a past Sunday school teacher and an officer of the Women’s Missionary Auxiliary. She prayed daily for her family, her church family, and many others. Pauline loved her God, and was always full of wisdom, humor and truth - like it or not. She was always putting everyone before herself.
Pauline had a poem for every occasion, and was always clipping articles and pictures from magazines for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading and making baby blankets.
For many years, she worked as a checker at Mad Butcher grocery store on Ohio Street. Before illness caused her retirement, she also worked a number of years at T.G&Y.
Visitation will be Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Larry Haynes officiating.
A graveside service will be held in DeWitt Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
