James M. Isreal
Death Feb 1928 Dekalb County
A family genealogy has exact dates of birth and death, but these differ considerably from those we get from censuses and this death record. The Newbrough Family Tree reports that James Monroe Israel was born on 7 Sep 1848 in Cherokee County, Alabama and died on 11 Feb 1926 in Dekalb County, Alabama. In his first census record, he was only 10 years old in June 1870. He could have been born in late 1849 or early 1850. In the 1870 census above, he was only 19 in August. Oddly this Newbrough tree actually cites the Alabama Death Index as the only source for its death date for James, though the date reported is two years earlier than the cited source!
