  Harriet died not long before the 1850 census.  The 1850 census reports R C Carson with children in the household.  The oldest is Ella (Ellen) at age 7.  The youngest is James at 3 months.  So we know that Hariet died in the last three months, possibly at childbirth.

  James is reported by the census taken 2 November 1850 as 3 months old, but the date of death on his mother's grave is 7 April 1850.  The actual census date in 1850 was June 1, so ages are to be reported as of that date.  James' burial marker reports his birth date as 27 February, so that matches.  Harriet died in early April 1850, and Janes died 2 months and 2 days later on 9 July 1850.
