    By 1930 he has married and is living next door to his widowed mother Katie Dumond.

    Chester and his wife Roberta have one daughter Dortha L, who is almost 7 years old.  This seems to indicate that Chester and Roberts married about 1922.  But the marriage information contradicts this.  We are told that Chester was 16 when he first married, and that Roberta was 15.  But Roberta is only 17 now, so she got married only about 2 years before.

    But Chester is 24, 8 years after he was first married.  This means that Chester was married in 1922, and his first wife had this daughter Dortha, but died before 1928, when he married Roberta.

    His obituary provides many details about his life and family, including his full name and date and place of birth.  Note how the paper spells the family name.  It gives the marriage date for Chester and Roberts as 29 December 1926.

    So this is only 3.5 years before the 1930 census.  If this age is correct for Dortha (actually Dorothy, according to the obituary), this also indicates she was the child of an earlier wife of Chester.

    DeWITT -- Chester Carleece DuMond of DeWitt, born October 16, 1906, to John Lewis (Louie) and Katie Watkins DuMond, died Thursday, August 5, 1999 at DeWitt City Hospital.

    Born in the area of the Point DeLuce-Prairie Union Community, Mr. DuMond, a retired farmer, was a lifelong resident of Arkansas County and baptized at Hebron Baptist Church.

    He married Roberta Padgett on December 29, 1926. To this union there were four children born:
    Dorothy Smith of Black Rock,
    Louis DuMond of DeWitt,
    Don DuMond of Dallas, Texas, and
    Wanda Hamby of Killeen, Texas.

    Mr. DuMond is survived by his wife of 72 years, Roberta Padgett DuMond
    his children -- Dorothy and her husband, W.W. Smith, Louis and his wife, Sara McCallie DuMond, Don and his wife, Sue Crick DuMond, and Wanda Hamby

    I notice that the date of death recorded on the SSDI is one day earlier than that reported in the obituary.  The date on the grave matches the obituary.
