Sadie Davis, 101, of Henrietta, Texas, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2012 in Henrietta.
Graveside services will be at 10:00AM, Wednesday, March 21, 2012 in the Hope Cemetery in Henrietta with Rev. Randy Osborn, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Henrietta officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta, Texas.
Mrs. Davis was born on February 12, 1911 in Ethel Arkansas to Lydia "Lida" Bertha and Thomas Jefferson Criswell. She migrated with her family to east Texas in the early 1930's and eventually settling in Clay County. She married W.C. "Red" Davis on November 7, 1936 in Henrietta, Texas. In 1954 she made Henrietta her home, making her a Clay County resident for over 76 years.
She was the second successive maternal generation of her family to live beyond 101 years. Her mother, Lida Criswell celebrated her 101st birthday in Henrietta on April 14, 1988.
The family consisted of five generations from 1972-1988 while Criswell was living. Mrs. Davis was the oldest of five generations from1996 to 2012. During the course of her life, Sadie was a mother to four daughters and one step-son. She was a devoted grandmother to eleven grandchildren (seven granddaughters and four grandsons), one step-grandson, twenty two great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Davis was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church in Henrietta, Texas.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Jefferson Criswell (1879-1958), mother Lydia Bertha (Cockran) Criswell (1887-1988), and husband, W.C. "Red" Davis (1903-1978). Also preceding her in death are seven siblings; half-brother, Albert Levi Lee McSwain (1905-1966), sister Neoma Belle Criswell Gillispie (1909-1994),brothers Alfred P Criswell, (1907-1907), Hallie Jefferson Brown Criswell (1914-1992), Lucious Hanna Criswell (1916-1921, James Braxton "J.B." Criswell (1919-2010) and Hubbard Ross Criswell (1924-1988); one step-son, Withers Clay "J.R." Davis Jr (1925-1998). One step-grandson, Rusty Davis (1946-1966); great grandson, Collin Ross Sanderson (1999-1999); beloved daughter, Katherine Lee Duckett (1938-2003) preceded her in death as well.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her only living sibling Roy Wayne Criswell of Bellevue, Texas; three daughters, Gertrude Inez Foster and husband Ted of Wichita Falls, Texas, Hallie Faye Gutierres and husband Jesse of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Alice Lorene Bloodworth of Henrietta, Texas.
The family will be at Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta, Texas on Tuesday evening, March 20, 2012 from 6:30PM-7:30PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of Wichita Falls at P.O. Box 4804, Wichita Falls, Texas 76308 or Clay County Memorial Hospital at 310 W. South St. Henrietta, Texas 76365.
