  Elizabeth's lineage name was originally Pettypool.  The name gradually became shortened and standardized in that form.  Genealogies and records commonly record her parents' name as Pettypool, but she appears more often as Pool or Poole.  Genealogies attach the following record for Elizabeth (Betsy) Pettypool to our Elizabeth Pool.
  
  Commentators on the name indicate that the Pettypools of New York had pretty well become Pools by the early 1800s. One discrepancy is that the following record reports her birth place as Lunenburg, North Carolina, while others report it as Virginia.  The marriage, birth and death years match other reports for Elizabeth Pool and John Jones.
