    A Spann family genealogy gives extensive family details but gives place of birth as Winfield, Alabama.

    The 1910 and 1930 censuses agree with Loretta.  There is also a discrepancy concerning the place of birth of Ernest's mother.  The genealogy reports her also born in Alabama, like William, but the censuses report she was born in Texas.  The 1930 census reports she was born in Alabama.

    Ernest died on 21 August 1905 in Pauls Valley, Garvin County, Oklahoma.  Two days later Ernest's funeral service was conducted at the Faith Baptist Church in Pauls Valley, with Troy Baker officiating.  Burial was in the Greenhill Cemetery of Lindsay in McClain County, under the direction of Stufflebean Funeral Home, Paul's Valley.

    Ernest's funeral program was provided by his niece Loretta Gregory Gay.
