Notes
- M G is usually referrred to by his initials, but sometimes is found as Marcus G. In the 1860 census he is Gustavus, in 1870 it is Augustus. From these examples, we can see that the initial G is for Gus, a common nickname for Augustus, but also for Gustavus. Since his name on his gravestone is M G, it seems likely his real given name was Gustavus. But some genealogies follow the one census report to call him Augustus. Later censuses report him as Marcus G.
