    Charles Eugene "C.E" Ward was born June 2, 1855 in Georgia, son of James B. Ward ( -1861) and Bethia O. Fuller (1831-1906).

    The 1860 Federal Census for District 11, Georgia (Carroll County) shows Charley Ward, age 5, born in Georgia; living with his father, James B. Ward, a farmer, age 35, born in Georgia; and his mother, Bethiea, age 28, born in South Carolina. Also living in the household were Charley's siblings: Obediah Ward, age 11; William Ward, age 9; T. Ward, age 8; Julian Ward, age 3; and W. N. Ward, age 3 months; all born in Georgia.

    The Texas Marriage Collection shows that on February 19, 1880 in Cass County, Texas, Charles married Margaret Suzanna Dycus, who was born August 26, 1855 in Georgia, daughter of Larkin Dycus and Elizabeth Compton.

    The 1900 Federal Census for Justice Precinct 3, Texas (Cass County) shows Charles Ward, age 45, born June 1854 in Georgia; and his wife, Martha, age 45, born August 1854 in Georgia. Living with them were nine children: Beulah Ward, age 19, born May 1881; Zilla Ward, age 17, born April 1883; Ernest Ward, age 15, born July 1884; Lois Ward, age 14, born January 1886; Eugene Ward, age 10, born September 1889; Julia Ward, age 8, born January 1892; Tuckora Ward, age 7, born March 1893; Edward Ward, age 5, born September 1894; and Fannie Ward, age 2, born September 1897; all born in Texas.

    Margaret died December 27, 1907 in Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) and was buried there in the Highland Cemetery.

    The 1920 Federal Census for Calera, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows Charles E. Ward, a widower and a farmer, age 64, born in Georgia. Living with him was his son, Eugene C. Ward, age 30; his daughter, Julia E. Ward, age 27; and his daughter Fannie H. Ward, age 21; all born in Texas. In addition, two widowed daughters were living in the household with their children: Zillar Carlton, a widow, age 36, born in Texas; and her children Charley Carlton, age 14; and Dallas Carlton, age 12; both born in Texas; and Tuck C. Morris, a widow, age 26, born in Texas; and her three children, Len W. Morris, age 6; Glym M. Morris, age 6; and Roble E. Morris, age 4; all born in Oklahoma.

    C. E. died in December 1935 in Durant, and was buried beside his wife in Highland Cemetery.

    C E Ward Dies Here Early Today

    C E Ward, aged 81 years, died at his home, 208 South 4th avenue, this morning after an extended illness. The deceased, born in Alabama, lived in several states of the Old South before moving to Texas, and came from the latter state to Durant about 22 years ago.

    Funeral services will be conducted at the Calvary Baptist church Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with Rev. A. L. Johnson, former pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Highland cemetery.

    He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Fred Taylor, Ardmore, and Mrs. Zillar Carlton, Mrs. A. O. Walker, Mrs. Tuck Marsh, Mrs. O. M. Williamson and Mrs. Alta Prentice, all of Durant, and two sons, Earnest Ward and Ed Ward, both of Durant. He was the grandfather of Lynn Marsh, Southeastern student and athlete.

    Active pall bearers will be Henry Reason, Zill Porter, Robert Rigdon, Luke Herron, Ben Blanchard and Chester Townsend.

    Honorary pall bearers are, Dr. R. E. Sawyer, M. L. Tanner, C. E. Amis, Ben Siegel, J. L. Blanchard, John Fletcher, J. W. Walker, John Walker, Les Smith, Howard Holmes, W. E. England, Albert Kirby, Robert Boston, Ed Pickens and John Price.
