Notes
- The 1900 census reports Thomas was born in Texas, but the 1910 census says Oklahoma. His WWI and WWII Draft Registration says it was Jefferson County, Oklahoma. That county was created at the foundiung of Oklahoma in 1907, out of mostly the Comanche-Kiowa-Apache Reservation and a small portoin of Chickasaw Naiotn.
The Comanche Reservation had become open land, part of Oklahoma Territory in 1890. So perhaps he was born in that area. It seems more likely he was born in Texas, and the family moved to former Comanche land a few years later. But the 1900 census, when he was 5 years old, reported his birth place as Texas.

His place of birth is reported as Jefferson County, Oklahoma. This came into being after the establishment of the State of Oklahoma in November 1907. Jefferson County was created out of part of Chickasaw Nation and a portion of Comanche County, Oklahoma Territory, which before 1890 had been part of the Kiowa, Apache and Comanche Reservation. It is not clear exactly what location in Jefferson was the site of his birth.
"It was created in 1907 from a portion of Comanche County in Oklahoma Territory and the southwestern corner of the Chickasaw Nation. A marker on S.H. 70 in Waurika, the county seat, designates the 98th Meridian, the dividing line between Indian Territory and Oklahoma Territory."
