• The first record I have found of Westbury Hayes is the 1850 census when he is listed under his initials at age 12.

  In 1860, Westbury and his wife Mary Jane are living next door to his parents in Habersham, Georgia, where he grew up.  In 1850 his age is reproted as 12, which would mean he was born about 1838.  But in 1860 he is only 20 years old, meaning he would have been born in about 1840.
