Charles E. Dew was born on August 28, 1919, to Ray and Reedie Dew near Foss, OK. He attended a rural school through the eighth grade and then graduated high school from Stafford Schools. Shortly thereafter, he was called into the Army, where he served almost four years in the 45th Medical Unit. After World War II ended, he was Discharged with Honor in 1945. In 1946, he entered college at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. Eventually, his Bachelor's degree was conferred from Central State University. He completed his formal education with a Master's degree from OU in 1952.
He continued to serve his community by teaching high school World History and English. After thirty-four years, he retired from Putnam City High School (original) in 1984. Mr. Dew was very kind, generous and caring, and he was loved dearly by his family. He is survived by his sister, Nila Browning; niece, Diana Thomas and husband David; nephew, David Browning; and great-nephew, Daniel Thomas and wife Sadie. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at All Souls' Episcopal Church, with interment in Memorial Park Cemetery.
