    IN MEMORY
As one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and his down to pleasant dreams, W.T. Jenkins, fell asleep the morning of Dec. 13th, to wake on earth no more.  He was born near Louisville, Kentucky, May 3, 1854, and when a little lad came with his parents to Waverly, Lafayette County, Missouri and spent the rest of his life here.

On Oct. 29, 1878, he was married to Miss Anna Richardson and seven children came to bless the home. Three died in early infancy and four to bring joy and pride to the hearts of the parents, who had lived for their church and their children, and then Clyde, their youngest born, died while away at college.

For 43 years Mr. Jenkins and his family have lived in Odessa, where the father united with the M.E. Church South, and has been a devoted member ever since, seldom missing a service until compelled by the ill health that befell him a number of years ago.

Mr. Jenkins was a loyal member of the I.O.O.F. for many years and a regular attendant until his ill health deprived him of the privilege. He was a man of quiet dignity attending to his own business, his whole heart centered on his home, his family and his church.  Few parents have equalled Mr. & Mrs. Jenkins in their single-hearted efforts for the advancement of their family.

After a friendship of nearly 40 years we feel it safe to say that a purer, cleaner, religious life was never spent before the people of Odessa than that of W.T. Jenkins.

His years of illness have brought universal sympathy and now that he has entered into eternal rest his memory will be cherished, with tender respect.  His death came unexpectedly from the infirmatives [infirmities] of old age, critical illness lasting only a few hours.

A very beautiful funeral service for him was held at his church Saturday morning [Dec. 15, 1928], with his pastor in charge. The burial was in Odessa Cemetery.

His wife, with whom he had spent a little more than a half-century of happiness, a daughter, Pearl; two sons, Forrest and Festus, survive him. Also three little grandsons.
