The wife's name here PA probably stands for Peggy Ann. Peggy is a common nickname for Margaret. The census reports that Sallie was 1 month old but born in December, which would make her about 8 months old.

The wife M A is consistent with the reports of his wife as Margaret Ann Jenkins.
It appears some genealogies have compressed two people of the same or similar name. Our Alexander H Horton moved to Attala County, Mississippi, where his children were born. Another was name A Hamilton Horton and he was born and died in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Both are referred to in some sources as Alexander Hamilton Horton. They were both reported with their respective wives in the 1880 censuses in their respective residences of Wilkes County, North Carolina, and Attala County, Mississippi.
A H & M A died in Attala Co MS. The other A H Horton died in Wilkes Co NC 15 Dec 1890.
The North Carolina A H Horton has two memorials on Find a Grave for the Wilkes County, North Carolina, A H Horton, for two different burial markers in different cemeteries.

A photo of the gravestone matching this memorial was taken by Bradley Ingels, including permission to use it. But ithe photo appears on another memorial with the same information matching this burial, not the memorial we transcribe above, which was found first. This indicates he went by the middle name Hamilton, while records we have present his name usually as Alexander H Horton.
The memorial above has no link to a spouse. His wife in the second one is reported as Mary Jane Vogler Horton. The wife of A H Horton that moved to Attala County, Mississippi, was Margaret Ann Jenkins. They were married about 1861. Mary Volger must have been an earlier wife who died early.
The second memorial reports burial in a Horton Cemetery in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell County, North Carolina. It seems likely that these two burial memorials are for the same person, one in a home area in Wilkes County, and another in another Horton stronghold. Both memorials report he died in Wilkes County.
The following memorial was posted about a year before the one above. The following also includes some other records.
