In 1920, Vernie F, along with her older brother John W, is missingfrom the enumeration of the household of Maggie McSwain Rowland, herwidowed mother.  Vernie should be about 12.  I have not yet found heror John W in the Arkansas County 1920 census.  He may have died beforethat census.

A great granddaughter of Bedford and Maggie reports that John diedbefore adulthood.  Since Vernie is missing from Shirley's list ofchildren, she must have also died before the 1920 census.  At first Isuspected they died of the Flu epidemic ("Spanish" Flu) that took somany others at that time.  But their names do not appear in theArkansas Death Index, which did not begin until 1914.  So it ispossible they died before 1914, but their deaths may not have beenrecorded officially.  This was the case with many in that era, especially children.

Vernie may be buried in the Rowland Family Cemetery on the old Rowlandfarm in Ethel, where Vernie's sistere Sarah Elizabeth and her husbandJames Jones lived later.

Birth 1908 Ethel, Arkansas County, Arkansas, USA
Death 1914 Ethel, Arkansas County, Arkansas, USA

It is likely that Vernie Rowland was buried in the Rowland FamilyCemetery on the family farm in Ethel, Arkansas. She and her brotherJohn, who was born about 1906 or 1907, appear to have died in theinfluenza epidemic. It must have been before 1914, because they do notappear in the Arkansas Death Index, which began in 1914. And sometimeschildren's deaths, especially in epidemics, were not recordedofficially. Dates are approximate.
