Clarence married again, and I am working with other Jackson-Green researchers to find the 1940 census record, which has been hiding from us.  My cousin Marion Mixon has provided the name of the second wife, and we are searching or further documentation.

"Marriage of Samuel C Philpot to Florence M Wright and the 1940 census.  Based on 1920 census and 1930 census marriage to Florence is between 1930 and 1940."

In the 1940 census, S C and Florence are enumerated next door to his brother Joseph R Philpot's family, including their father Newton.

I notice that the birth date on the SSDI is 27 Oct 1897, while the WWI draft registration and the 1900 census both have the year as 1896.  Usually when there is a discrepancy the 1900 census is wrong, but in this case the WWI information, given by Samuel Clarence himself, carries more weight.  His obituary likewise reports the year of birth as 1897, but the obituary is a secondary source for birth information, though primary for the death and burial information.  If he was 70, then he was born in 1896.

From the date of the obituary clipping, we can determine the date of death, not reported in the obit.  8 January 1967 was a Sunday, and they report death occurred on Saturday (7 January 1967).  The funeral was on Tuesday, which would have been 10 January 1967.
