Hamida's husband Steven Gregory posted this announcement and tribute when they found out Hamida had cancer.

    -------------------
Everyone, I wanted to share some bad news because so many of you know my wife, Hamida. About a month ago Hamida was diagnosed (and confirmed) to have a horrible disease for which there is no treatment or cure. The disease is CJD (google it). She has declined rapidly and only has a few days (maybe a week) to live. Thankfully she is in no pain and is at home in her San Diego condo that she dearly loves.

I don't know what to say, but those who know her will understand what a great loss this is for not just me but her hundreds of friends around the world. She made friends everywhere she traveled and she traveled the globe. The last weeks have seen dozens of friends and family visit her. I knew she touched many lives but I did not know how many. She loved people and they loved her.

For the last 2 years, she was working at a local community college in the ESL program. She met people from all over the world and loved every day of her job. Her fluency in 7 languages made her very valuable in helping students with English. But she did much more, for dozens of student she urged them to not get discouraged, to do their best and make the most of this great country that they are in. She fully believes that with hard work and education you can do anything if you really want to.

She is my wife, best friend, confidante, pal, travel buddy, advisor, and so much more. She gave me the world and then said: "let's see and enjoy the world". And that we did, but we just ran out of time to see it all. I will miss her every day for the rest of my life.

I will close now but if you can please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

    She is an amazing person.

    Regards to you all,
    Steve (Hamida's Lucky Husband)
