    CARLISLE - Dorothy Marie (Adams) Maddox of Carlisle, formerly of DeWitt and St. Charles, died Jan. 25, 2014.

    She was born to James and Emmie Adams on Feb. 4, 1924, in Tomberlin, Ark. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings. She was also preceded in death by her husband Roy J. Maddox; and by a son, Harold Eugene Guynes.

    Dorothy is survived by her children: Jo Ann (James) Mitcham of Redfield, Jerry Guynes of DeWitt, Carolyn (Bobby) Wright of DeWitt and Mickey (Pam) Maddox of Carlisle. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

    Dorothy was a homemaker for most of her life and loved gardening, cooking, cats, Christmas, hummingbirds and crappie fishing. She was a current member of Carlisle First Baptist Church and a former member of Belleview Missionary Baptist Church in Ethel. She had recently been a resident of Chambers Nursing Home in Carlisle.

    The family would like to thank the staff of Chambers Nursing Home and Dr. Chris Morgan for their care during her stay, as well as the ICU nurses at Baptist Medical in both Stuttgart and Little Rock for their gentleness and concern in her last hours.

    Visitation was held on Monday, Jan. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Essex Funeral Home in DeWitt. Funeral services will also be held at Essex on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m., with burial following in St. Charles Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Belleview Missionary Baptist Church, St. Charles Cemetery or a charity of choice. essexfuneralhome.com.
