• "We do not know when Mary was born, nor when she married. But she is clearly married by 1788. That suggests she was born not much later than 1768. Various dates for her birth from 1746 to 1773 have been proposed. We simply do not know."

  "We do NOT know when Benjamin and Mary married. We only know that in March of 1788 she was referred to as Mary Gregory in her father's Will. So we know they were married by then. We have 1791 as the date of Jesse's birth, also supporting assumptions."

  When Mary signed a marriage permisison letter for her daughter Charlotte Geregory, she signed her name as Mary Jones, indicating apparently her married name from another marriage after the death of Benjamin Gregory in 1798.  Mary lived until 1828.

  Permisison in writing by Mary Jones:
  "I authorise you to grant a lisens to Mr Lewis Templeman and my daughter Charlotte Gregory given under my hand, Mary Jones, Feby 20th 1815."
