In 1860 William and Cynthia were living in Arkansas.  From the ages and birth states reported for the children in 1860, it looks like they moved to Arkansas about 1853.

    --------------
Our ancestor William J. Perry was captured, 8 Oct 1864 in Jefferson County, Missouri.  He was "confined at the Post of Jefferson City, Missouri during the month of October, 1864."  Then, he was "Forwarded to St. Louis Oct 24, 1864." to Gratiot Street Military Prison where he would be "processed."  On 28 Nov 1864, he was transferred to the prison at Alton, Illinois (near St Louis).  Several months later, on 17 Feb 1865, he was "Transferred to Point Lookout, MD for exchange."

He had already been a POW for almost five months.  Did he walk or ride the railroad those 950 miles to Point Lookout, Maryland?  Did he survive the deplorable tent prison, in winter time conditions?  "Located on the southern tip of the MD peninsula, it was deemed the largest and worst Northern POW camp."  Four months after his transfer, the war ended in June 1865.  Source:  His CSA record.
