In the 1850 census, Isaac was a widowed head of household with two granddaughters in his home. The girls are the two youngest daughters of his deceased son Benjamin, who died in 1847, and each of his two wives. Jane's mother was Lucyann Steen, and Mary's mother was Mary S Van Lew, whom Ben married in 1838, after Lucyann's death.

On the other side of Isaac we find his daughter-in-law Mary Van Lew in what may be her sister's household. Two children in the household have a surname that appears to be either Vandlieu or Van Llieu. Relationships are uncertain. Mary S Gregory is the mother of Mary Gregory who is in Isaac's hosuehold.
