The name Heard is probably spelled Hurd, as the family name. That is the spelling used in an anonymous genealogy on this family.

However, he reports Hurd born in Houston, while the census of 1910 reports they are still in Jefferson County, Tennessee, and that both children in the home were born in Tennessee. Perhaps he has the right person, but has the wrong birth place. I have not yet (September 2009) found further documentation of the family's move to Texas.
The 1920 census has one clue, but no further information. The birth place here reported for Heard is Texas, matching the genealogy report.

Thus perhaps they moved for just a short time to Houston, where Hurd was born about 1907, then moved back to Jefferson County, Tennessee, before the 1910 census in April. I have not found any information on the two children who died before the 1910 census to get any further clues as to the time of the move to Texas or how long they were there before Hurd's birth in about 1907.
