  Between the birth of William's sister in 1877 and the 1880 census, William's father died and their mother moved the family from near Arkansas Post, in the southern end of Arkansas County near the confluence of the Arkansas, White and Mississippi Rivers, and up north near the White River.
  
  In the 1880 census, William was listed twice.  Once in his mother's home, and again on his own in the household of his employer, George McGahey.
