    -------------------
Margaret Scaife, daughter of Ferdinand Dugraphanel and Mary (Wilkes) Scaife, was born in Chester County, South Carolina in 1826.  She married A S Gregory of Union County in that county in 1846.  They lived in Union County, where Mr Gregory was a farmer.  He died in the early 1860s and was buried in Union County.

After the War Between the States was over and the Scaife men had returned home and decided to move to Arkansas, the widow Gregory took her four children and her colored nurse in her carriage and moved to Arkansas.  In the 1880 U S census of Phillips County, Arkansas, she is listed as head of household and 54 yerars of age.  Three of her sons were living with her at that time.  The children of Mr and Mrs Gregory were:
    Sarah Gregory   James Gregory
Brooks H Gregory        Margaret Susan Gregory
[They actually had 9 children.  These 4 were those still at home with her when she moved. Sarah was reported as Sallie in the censuses.]
