    --------------------
David Dycus, b 1834, Rutherford, NC, lived in Whitfield, GA

I have recently found my Dycus ancestors after finding the 1900 census record listing my great-grandmother Lula Dycus.  Her father was James Larkin Dycus and his father was Davd Dycus.  I have seen many Ancestry.com trees listing David's middle name as William but have no source information for that middle name.

Instead, I DO see sources for a middle initial of A, which seems to match a story posted in one tree about Civil War service in Savannah.  Other census, voting, legal, etc. records for David A Dycus put him in the same Vernell, Red Clay, neighborhood as my David Dycus.
