Will Lovin Graham Co.  His oldest
son John died in the Union Army.
--  Transcribed as is, except that the stone is carved in all caps

The grave marker states that James was killed in Cherokee County, butthe Find a Grave memorial reports his place of death as Burke County,North Carolina.  The memorial may have meant James was the first Unionman from Cherokee County who was killed in the war, rather than thathe was the first one killed in Cherokee County, as the wordingindicates.  I have not found the army records.  For now I am followingthe death place reported by Find a Grave.

This marker does not mention the son James Wesley Lovin, whose familyinformation led to James and Salina.
