    Wednesday, March 25, 1863
    Murder - Mr Benjamin Washburn, an old and respectable citizen ofRutherford County, NC, was brutally murdered in cold blood by the handof one George Suttles, on the 5th last. The wound was inflected [sic]by a pistol, and produced death instantly. Mr Washburn was about 50years of age, and had filed [sic] important positions in his county.Suttles has been arrested.
