The Hamrick Data Pages report that George died in 1864 in Virginia, which makes me think the Hamrick data has confused this George with George Washington McSwain, son of William McSwain and Mary Nancy Bridges, and husband of a Hannah McSwain.  He was shot as a deserter in the Civil War, when he overstayed a furlough to help his starving family on the farm in Cleveland County.  Other information and reports by other genealogies points to the latter as the George Washington McSwain who was executed, rather than this George, husband of Hannah Hamrick.

    McSwain, George Washington (1836 - 1864)
    b. 19 Sep 1836
    d. 5 Jan 1864 in VA
    father: McSwain, William (1806 - 1881)
    mother: Hamrick, Judith (1809 - 1894)
    spouse: Hamrick, Hannah (~1841 - )

Without any further documentation to consier, it seemed that this George, born in 1827 the son of William and Judith Hamrick might also have been also killed in the war in Virginia.  But no futher evidence was found to support this.  The executed George Washington McSwain died by firing squad in Orange County, Virginia, on 9 January 1864.  The date of death reported here by Hamrick for this George is close, at 5 January 1864, so could be from another incident and cause.

But an 1870 census entry was found in 2015 matching George, with a wife named Malissa, reported as age 32, so born about 1838.  He is reporting the matching age of 12 in the 1850 census among William and Judith's children.  These census ages reporting an approximate year only 2 years later than the reported date of birth by Hamrick is in the ballpark for census age matching, and does match the 1860 census.

The main conflict is now the name of the wife Malissa, in contrast to the Hannah in the Hamrick pages.  Note that the Hamrick profile has no date of death for Hannah Hamrick McSwain.  Also Hamrick data has the worng wife in some cases too.

McSwain, George 32 M W Farm Laborer Real Estate or Personal Not Rptd born NC [b abt 1838]

    McSwain, Martha 15 F W Domestic born NC [b abt 1845]
    McSwain, William 10 M W Farm Laborer born NC [b 1860]

George and Malissa's marriage record was found in Ancestry's library.  This clarifies that this George McSwain is a different perosn from the person the Hamrick Pages had in mind, but still may be the correct son of William McSwain and Judith Hamrick.  The details of the Hamrick pages on the wife Hannah and the chidlren found in the census of 1860 may not be the correct family members.
