Married Living CALLAWAY

CauseOfDeath: Stroke.14

  • She always went by Nan.  We called her Aunt Nan.  Her funeralinformation had her name as Netheline M Callaway.  This order of hernames is also found in the Social Security Death Index, though nofamily source agrees.  The censuses which record her variously asMartha N, Mattie N, and Netheline (with no other initial).

She was my favorite aunt on my Dad's side (Orville Lee Jenkins), or atleast the one I was closest to.  She is the one of Dad's siblings Ihave the earliest childhood memories of as a distinct person.  I was 7or 8, Nan came and stayed with us a few days when we lived on 11thStreet (US Hwy 287 West) in Quanah, Texas.  This was before shemarried.

Nan married late in life and never had children of her own.  She lovedLenard's children like her own, and always spoke to us of them withdeep affection, and she would keep us updated on news of her family.

I remember our family visiting them in Midwest City when I was achild.  I remember going to church services with them at First BaptistChurch.  My girlfriend Edith made a trip with our family to Oklahomain 1968 and we visited Nan and Lenard then.  Later after Edith and Iwere married we visited them many times.  When we were back in the USfrom Kenya, East Africa, in 1980-81, we visited them with our two newboys, in the US for the first time.

In her first census enumeration 1-year-old Nan is listed by Mattie, the nickname for her first name Martha.

I found that the funeral remembrance card information, as well as theobituary published in the Midwest City Sun, indicated that Nan died inPlano, Texas, a neighbouring suburb of Dallas.  I would think that thefuneral announcement information was based on information from Lenard, but we heard no update on the place where she was when she died.Maybe she was moved from Richardson to a nearby facility in Plano, where she died shortly after.  I am reporting the place of death asLenard gave it to us.

The funeral was held 5 April 2007 in First Baptist Church, MidwestCity, Oklahoma, where Lenard and Nan had been members for decades. The funeral, with burial following in Arlington Memory Garden, wasconducted by Bill Eisenhour Southeast Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.
