On the shared gravestone for William, Sarah and their son Albert, there is a series date, saying "1895 to 1904."

Sarah appears in the 1900 census as a widow with her children, including Albert, who is 20 years old.  The date of 1895, then, must be the death of William.  The date of the birth of their last child, William W, was about May 1896.  This must mean that William died late in 1895, during Sarah's pregnancy with William W.

It is not clear from the notation on the their joint grave marker whether the last date 1904 is meant to apply to both Sarah and Albert.  I have not been able to find Sarah in any records after the 1900 census.  I found the marriage record for Albert to Lida Cochran in 1904.  By 1910, Lida has remarried.  It appears that Albert died soon after their marriage.  Thus I have taken the last date of 1904 as both Sarah's and Albert's death date of 1904.  They may have died in an epidemic.

In 1900 widow Sarah is running the farm.

Note that the father of the children is now said to have been born in Tennessee, not North Carolina.  But int he 1870 census of the McSwain family in Tennessee, he was reported born in North Carolina.

Sarah's two youngest children, Bertha and William W, were taken in by John and Mary Henderson.  In the 1910 census, they are enumerated in the Henderson household with the relationship of Ward.
