  • Bailey's name and his father's are sometimes spelled Baily in public records.  Family sources consistently spell the name Bailey. There were earlier Baileys in this lineage, one participating in the Revolutionary War.  We find both spellings from that early time.

    Bailey and his two brothers Benjamin Franklin and Nathan Morris fought in the Mississippi Confederate forces.  Bailey was captured by the Union twice.  His regiment surrendered and was paroled at Vicksburg in July 1863.

    After his first parole, he violated parole and joined the fight again.  In 1865, he and his two brothers were captured together when their regiment surrendered at Citronelle, Alabama.  Their residence at that time was reported as Yazoo County, Mississippi.
