Notes

  • It is uncertain exactly how old the child Henry was when he died.  Heis known by name from an entry in a family Bible, and his grave hasbeen located in what is now Mitchell farm, near Dalton, in CassCounty, Texas, where the Jenkins and Christian families lived.

The gravestone dates are not fully readable, due to damage to theheadstone.  Family tradition suggests Henry was born in 1876, matchingthe readable year of 1876 on the stone.  The month is missing.  Thushe would have been only about 4 years old at most when he died, as henever appears in a census.  He died some time before the June 1880census.

"A small grave with an old handmade sandstone marker bearing theinscription  “(?). H. Jenkins / Born - 4, 1876 / Died --”  is locatedin a small grove of trees and crepe myrtle about 350 yards northwestof the farm home occupied by Mrs. J. C. Mitchell (between Bryans Milland Dalton). One of the Jenkins families was reported to have lived onthis farm in the late 1800s."
