Notes

  • There were three generations named John W Strange.  I have not discovered what the middle initial stands for.  It is not certain if the first had the same middle name as for his son and grandson.

One source has the title Sr for the first John W, born in 1751 in Virginia.  This would normally indicate that the son's name was exactly the same as his.  I do find one source, however, oddly calling his son Sr and his grandson Jr, with no special designation for the grandfather.  This would seem to indicate that the middle name of the grandfather was different from the other two, and that the middle name of the son and grandson were the same.

The name of the first John W Strange's wife is not known.  All sources I have found except one report the three sons for him which I have here.  One source lacks William. One source, however, does give the year of marriage.

"Russell Cemetery is located on the north side of the northeast quarter of Section 6 in Haw Creek Township, Knox Co., Il. It is back in a cornfield to the south of the road. It is fenced and mowed. This spring someone has been repairing the stones. Willma Butts and Pam Eagle recopied the stones and dug some of them out of the ground. We found two that had been completely covered over with grass. Another stone was found along the fence. Many stones are missing, as you can easily spot sunken graves."
