Notes

  • We first find William Henderson in Missouri in the 1880 census.  But this census tells us he was born in Tennessee.  He later moved back there.

From the 1920 census in Jefferson County, Tennessee, we learn more about the family of William Edith.  First off, her proper name is confirmed as Edith, which we would expect from the name Edie used in the 1910 census and a family genealogy.

I notice here that both parents of William are said to have been born in Tennessee.  In 1880, we are told that his mother was born in Virginia.  I found it odd and suspicious that every single person and both parents of everyone on this page of the census for Jefferson County, Tennessee, was reported as born in Tennessee.

In this census, next door to William and Edith are William's single brother and their mother Mary F Palmer Strange, now a widow.  Three doors down on the other side are the Phillips family, Elmer and Martha and their children.  Their daughter Daisy (Daisy Evelyn) married Carl.  This was probably before the end of 1920.  I do not have the exact date from any source.

James M matches the child listed as Murphy in the 1920 census in Jefferson County.  Now we know his name is James Murphy.  Note that James is reported as married, and not as a widower, but his wife is not in the household.  I don't know what this means.

Additional children are named in some genealogies.
